Should community colleges consider adopting the full-time hiring model used by Henry Ford Community College as a national standard? Here is a brief description of the model:
Wiithin a department, take the total number of sections that two (2) full-time instructors teach per term. For example, two instructors teaching four (4) sections a term equals a departmental standard of eight (8). If the department then employs part-time instructors to teach eight (8) or more sections per term for three consecutive terms, then the department has the contractual right to request a new permanent full-time position.
