Lazy Students - This Isn't 13th Grade
Before the beginning of the fall semester colleagues sent me a list of their online homework in a 4 credit class. I felt it was not enough and augmented the assignments. Last week a student came to me complaining of 3 hours of work a week on this class. Before the beginning of the fall semester colleagues sent me a list of their online homework in a 4 credit class. I felt it was not enough and augmented the assignments. Last week a student came to me complaining of 3 hours of work a week on this class. Remember we don't pull punches - we are clear up front that the average student is expected to do 2 hours of outside work for each credit. This would mean 8 hours for the average (C) student. Woody Allen said, "90% of life is showing up." This should not be true of college and community colleges although some people, erroneously, think of community college as grade 13. It's real college - not college lite.
Moral of this story: Student's need to expect to actually WORK - not merely show up.
