Librarians who work in colleges and universities should have faculty status. Faculty status insures that librarians ' salaries equal that of other college professionals. It helps bring recognition to the teaching librarians do, in information literacy classes and in reference interactions. When librarians are treated as faculty peers, they attend the same meetings and events and sit on the same committees as teaching faculty. These collegial activities help maintain communication between librarians and teaching faculty. Librarians also have opportunities to present at the same regional and national conferences that teaching faculty attend, thus improving the visibility of librarians and what they have to offer.
