At my community college here in California, there are 300 adjuncts, and 100 full-time teachers.
That means, 3 out of 4 college professors have no benefits, and exist on about 25K a year. We need to be paid 50-90K per year to start. Transportation and Sanitation worker get this kind of compensation, as well as College Administrators. Why not adjunct professors?!

An Asst. Chancellor in my district was just hired for 162K, a year. This is a position that has been empty for two years.( If it has been empty for two years, the question then becomes... Do we really need it"?)
We are in charge of the minds of the future, the most precious commodity of a great society. As a result, we are given more work, less pay, and told that we are lucky to have a job.
For example... If only I could pay for a new tire on my car, I wouldn't be riding on my spare.
...the irony of this situation being, that it is an economic analogy for the life of an adjunct professor. We are all driving without a spare.
Adding insult to injury is a great way to keep dedicated professionals from seeking jobs in Education, and to see it as a financially unrewarding option, barely enough to raise a family, or even survive in todays economy.
If there one thing that the Obama/Biden team can improve,it is Fed.Govt. reform of the current pay scales for adjuncts. We need to be protected from our States ability to use Federally allotted money for their General Fund (see Arnold Vs Education 2010)
WE, as adjuncts, are the ones in the trenches, and the ones on whom the whole Community College house of cards is built.
Please help us protect the future.
Thank you for your time, and good luck.
