STEM educators are under pressure to offer classes online where it doesn't make sense. If English and Psychology can successfully offer online classes, why can't Chemistry or Physics? Because students have to wrap their fingers around the widgets in order to learn in STEM fields of study. I teach a weekend class; successfully taught a math class distance learning using live, tele-presence technology; and implemented UT Austin's Quest online homework technology. I'm not against technology or innovation - I'm just against stupid technology. Let's use technology when it can help us improve; not use technology if it's of no benefit; and have the wisdom to know the difference.
