College Completion

I suggest you...Educate students on Healthy relationships and family Planning in order to help community college students finish their education and then plan for a family when the time is right. Project HOPE "Healthy Outcomes Through Education and Prevention" currently at Mesa Community College in Arizona is a project which students and faculty promote healthy relationships and prevention. We simply wish to lower the rate of College dropouts due to an unplanned pregnancy. I am personally tied to this as I was a 15 year old mother and have a story to share that would touch your heart. Please visit our site at www.mccprojecthope.org for more information.

  2. I feel that this group wants to pity women with unplanned pregnancies. I had an unplanned pregnancy that was and still is my push to finish school! In Dec., I will be graduating, and transferring to ASU, to continue on my path to obtain a PhD. I have had no help from the school in doing this, no help from friends, no father, and not much help from family. I don't want to be pitied because I had a baby, because I don't regret having her. She is my inspiration and my motivation, and if anything, I am luckier than most other students!

I feel this project makes people who do/did have children look bad, and makes those who graduate without children superior. It also makes it seem like people like me should be pitied. That, I disagree with.

  3. I left CC the first time to have a baby, and ended up having two children. I didn't return to school for ten years because there was no way that I could afford full time childcare, tuition, and the rising cost of books. CC daycare will only take children that are potty-trained (which is understandable), but harder on single mothers that want to continue school. When I wanted to return to school, I was unable to financially. Now that I am back in school - it is still a financial burden, but worth it because my children are in school. I have seen Project HOPE on my campus and I believe in what they are doing - informing and teaching students and faculty about the possible detriments of UN-planned pregnancy. I know that there are some that an unplanned pregnancy would not detriment them, but for most (like me) it will put them back quite a few steps.

  6. This is a wonderful topic to be addressed. Unfortunately we don't address this enough in the schools where it should come from.

  10. I agree, finishing your college education is very important. It will help you build financial success in order for your to start a family. There are too many drop outs due to teen pregnancy and unplanned parenthood. The program will be a great benefit for the community.

That said if we are going to bring about the huge change we need we need more and bigger ideas. This one will help but we broader change that impacts every single student in every single college.
